The Regional Minister of Science chairs the plenary session of the Galician Network of Quantum Technologies, which agrees to develop a map of quantum technologies capabilities in Galicia
Gradiant is in charge of leading the new executive committee to develop actions on quantum hardware and software
This morning, the II Plenary Session of the Galician Network of Quantum Technologies was held, with Gradiant participating, and attended by the regional Minister of Education, Science, Universities, and Vocational Training, Román Rodríguez. During the session, the intention to attract new European investments to reinforce Galicia’s leadership in quantum research was presented.
Román Rodríguez, accompanied by the director of the Galician Innovation Agency, Carmen Cotelo, stated that these technologies are “a priority for Galicia, as their application will allow the discovery of new medicines, the design of new materials, the optimization of production processes, and the improvement of energy efficiency, among other uses.” The Science Minister invited all network members to continue collaborating to leverage Galicia’s significant capabilities in this field and generate synergies.
Indeed, Galicia is “a pioneering territory in the field of quantum technologies,” Rodríguez pointed out, noting that it has important infrastructures such as the Galicia Supercomputing Center (CESGA) and the Vigo Quantum Communication Center, dependent on the University of Vigo, and a business fabric “that has understood the innovative and cross-cutting potential of this technology for its growth.”
The Minister thanked all network members – universities, technological and research centers, the business sector, and the administration – “for advancing the creation of opportunities for research and work in quantum technologies,” positioning Galicia as a reference in these technologies to attract talent, investment, and opportunities for our industry.
New Executive Committee on Quantum Hardware and Software Led by Gradiant
In this morning’s meeting, an executive committee led by Gradiant was established with the mission of achieving specific objectives and developing medium- and long-term strategic actions focused on quantum hardware and software. Additionally, another committee on the applications of quantum technologies was created, led by the digital innovation hub DIHGIGAL.
Furthermore, two new members were welcomed to the network, the technological centers Instituto Tecnológico de Galicia (ITG) and Centro Tecnológico de Automoción de Galicia (CTAG), bringing the total to 15 members. Upcoming actions were also discussed, including the development of a capabilities map and value chain of quantum technologies in Galicia.
The creation of this network is part of our Community’s push towards quantum technologies through the launch of the Galician Quantum Technologies Hub in 2022, with the mission of making Galicia a European reference in these technologies by 2030.
