The SPECTRA project focuses on research into new services related to the use and support of electric vehicles, such as determining the vehicle’s range, identifying the best route, and calculating the lowest energy consumption between the current location and the destination (possibly including one or more charging stations between the origin/destination or within a door-to-door service). This takes into account not only the distance or time required for the trip, but also many other variables, such as the energy that may be consumed during the journey and how this consumption will affect other electric vehicle (EV) consumers, such as the battery status, safety devices, auxiliary systems, etc. Another area of research aims to investigate the requirements for a possible onboard hardware platform that would enable data acquisition. This data comes both from within the vehicle, generated by the vehicle itself or external sensors, as well as from communication with a higher-level system that centralizes and manages the information generated by each node/vehicle.
