Sub-THz communications with integrated sensing
The main application is to provide advanced wireless connectivity in scenarios where transmitting data is not sufficient and elements in the environment must also be detected, located or characterised. The sub-THz link carries IP application traffic through L2 functionality, while the ISAC waveform enables sensing capabilities such as radar. This is useful in 6G networks, smart industrial environments, perimeter surveillance, connected mobility, high-density indoor spaces and infrastructure requiring bidirectional communication and awareness of the surroundings.
Advanced connectivity and environmental perception
The main benefit is combining, within a single system, functions that traditionally required separate infrastructure: wireless communications and sensing. This reduces complexity, optimises radio resources and enables more intelligent services. Sub-THz operation offers the potential for high data rates, low latency and precise sensing, while bidirectionality and the L2 layer facilitate integration with real IP applications. Improved coverage also extends applicability to demanding indoor and outdoor scenarios, strengthening its value for future networks and critical systems.
