The project involves the creation and development of a ”Unidad Mixta de Investigación” (UMI) focused on applied research and experimental development in the fields of advanced scientific data management, artificial intelligence applied to biotechnology, and cybersecurity.
D’AIRA is structured around a comprehensive approach that will enable progress towards more efficient, connected and secure laboratories. To this end, the unit will work in three main areas: advanced scientific data management, aimed at the continuous improvement of data quality, traceability and interoperability; the application of artificial intelligence, through the development of advanced analytical models that facilitate the analysis and generation of knowledge from large volumes of information; and cybersecurity, proactively ensuring the protection of sensitive data in highly regulated environments.
The project was funded under the 2025 Unidad Mixta de Investigación (UMI) call for proposals and co-financed by the European Union.
This project receives funding from the Galician Innovation Agency and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) under the Galicia FEDER Programme 2021–2027.
Progress made
During the first year of implementation, the scientific and technological foundations of the Joint Unit’s three lines of research have been consolidated: advanced scientific data management, artificial intelligence for biotechnology, and cybersecurity. The work carried out has focused on reviewing the state of the art, identifying the main technological challenges and specifying needs and use cases with direct application in the Mestrelab Research and Hifas da Terra environments. This process has enabled the general objectives defined in the technical report to be transformed into more specific research problems and has guided the subsequent phases towards experimentation, integration and validation activities.
Across the board, the progress made highlights a growing convergence between the various lines of research within D’AIRA. Structured and traceable data management forms a necessary foundation for the development of AI models, whilst the use of interoperable agents and tools introduces new requirements in terms of governance, auditability, security and privacy.
