This year’s Forum focuses on innovative health ecosystems in four areas: Longevity, Biotech, Onehealth and Artificial Intelligence

The technology centre organises an agora on the control of health data in Europe given Gradiant’s experience in different international projects

Next 8th and 9th of November, Gradiant will participate in RIES 2023, the leading national and international forum that addresses the challenges and opportunities of the health ecosystem. This event, held in Vigo, is organised by Clúster Saúde Galicia (CSG). One of its main attractions is that it’s an international meeting place and an ideal forum for public and private organisations involved in the field of health to exchange experiences, knowledge, share challenges and opportunities. Gradiant is once again supporting this event and our Executive Director, Luis Pérez-Freire, is a member of the organizing committee. Members of our eHealth team are also organising an agora session on Data Spaces in Europe.

In the health field, Gradiant is a member of the Clúster Galego de Saúde and participates in the Health WG of the Spanish Hub Gaia-X, as a partner. In addition, it is currently participating in the IGNICIA programme, a technology transfer initiative promoted by the Galician Innovation Agency with ACE, an eHealth solution.

Agora session on the role of the European Data Spaces

In today’s economic landscape, where data has become a fundamental raw material for the operation of many companies, its management and control are matters of great political importance. This becomes even more important with information as sensitive as citizens’ health data. Europe is working to offer a third way of governance based on returning sovereignty in this area to citizens. For this reason, it is facilitating, through specific regulation and the funding of various projects, the development of different tools with which this approach to privacy does not undermine the possibilities for research into different diseases thanks to the efficient management of big data.

Two examples of these projects are PERSIST (already completed) and TRUMPET, of which Gradiant is the coordinator. Although both projects have a different purpose, our technology ensures patient data control and privacy in both projects with various systems and solutions. At the same time, it makes it easier for researchers from different centres to access them in order to have a larger sample for their cancer-related studies.

With this experience, our eHealth team has proposed an agora session within the framework of the VIII RIES Forum: Transforming Social and Health Care: The Role of European Data Spaces’. This theme aims to assess the usefulness of the European model of the European Health Data Space, the main problems associated with its implementation and the advantages that such a model can bring for the improvement of socio-health care, the personalisation of treatment plans, medical research and/or drug development.

VIII RIES Forum

With a face-to-face approach, the VIII RIES Forum will take place at the Hotel Attica21 in Vigo. This year’s event focuses on four specific areas: Longevity, Biotech, Onehealth and Artificial Intelligence. RIES 2023 will also be the venue to showcase the results of ECO-NECT, a European project of the Horizon Europe programme. The programme is divided into two days:

The first, on 8 November, will be the inauguration in a unique space conducive to facilitating networking, with the participation of speakers, sponsors, collaborators and award winners of the VIII RIES Forum 2023.

The second day, 9 November, will be time to share projects, knowledge and experiences in order to generate synergies. Our colleagues on the eHealth tram will be part of that agora. In addition, there will be other round tables, project presentations and guided tours.  For more information and registration: https://forumries.com/
