Gradiant Leads New Executive Committee on Quantum Hardware and Software as Part of the Galician Network of Quantum Technologies
The Regional Minister of Science chairs the plenary session of the Galician Network of Quantum Technologies, tasked with drawing up a map of quantum technology capabilities in Galicia
Gradiant to lead new executive committee to develop action on quantum hardware and software
The II Plenary Session of the Galician Network of Quantum Technologies was held this morning, with the participation of Gradiant and the Regional Minister of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training, Román Rodríguez. It was agreed to endeavour to attract new European investment to strengthen Galicia’s leadership in quantum research.
Román Rodríguez, accompanied by the director of the Galician Innovation Agency, Carmen Cotelo, pointed out that these technologies are “a priority for Galicia, given that their application will make it possible to discover new medicines, design new materials, optimise production processes or improve energy efficiency, among other uses”. The Regional Minister of Science invited all members of the network to continue collaborating in order to take advantage of Galicia’s great capabilities in the field and to generate synergies.
In fact, Galicia is “a pioneering region in quantum technology”, said Román Rodríguez, with important infrastructure such as the Galician Supercomputing Centre (CESGA) or the Vigo Quantum Communication Center, dependent on the University of Vigo, and a business network “that understood the innovative and transversal potential of this technology for its growth”.
The Regional Minister thanked all the members of the network – universities, technology and research centres, the business sector and the Administration – for their commitment “to advance in the generation of opportunities for research and work in quantum technologies”, which will position Galicia as a benchmark in these technologies in order to attract talent, investment and opportunities for our industry.
New Gradiant-led executive committee on quantum hardware and software
At this morning’s meeting, the executive committee that will lead Gradiant was constituted with the mission to achieve concrete objectives and develop strategic actions in the medium and long term focused on quantum hardware and software. Another committee was also set up to look at the applications of quantum technologies, led by the digital innovation hub DIHGIGAL.
Two new members of the network were welcomed aboard: the technology centres Technological Institute of Galicia (ITG) and Technological Automotion Centre of Galicia (CTAG), bringing the total number of members to 15, and forthcoming actions were set out. Among them, it is worth highlighting the drawing up of a map of capacities and the value chain of quantum technologies in Galicia.
The creation of this network is part of our region’s drive for quantum technologies through the launch of the Galician Quantum Technologies Hub in 2022, with the mission of making Galicia a European leader in these technologies by 2030.
