This digital wallet, developed within IMPULSE European project, is now available for use in public institutions and entities, serving as an effective and secure tool for identity verification.
Designed to replace current digital certificates, this e-wallet has been showcased this morning at the Final Conference on Identity Management in Public Services in Rome
Gradiant’s e-wallet is available from now on for the European public administrations. As part of a Final Conference on Identity Management in Public Services held this morning in Rome, the Spanish technology centre showcased the effectiveness and security of the digital wallet for identity verification in public institutions and entities applications.
This tool was developed during the IMPULSE project, led by Gradiant, that finishes now after three years. During the event, all partners exposed IMPULSE’s results, featured discussions with experts and public administrations who shared their experiences focused on public services enhanced by electronic identity.
This innovation is designed to replace current digital certificates and streamline procedures for European citizens, with national and international authorities. It stands as one of the first e-wallets to receive the European-level conformity seal, certify by the European blockchain network, EBSI, accrediting it as a secure proof of identity that aligns with the regulatory model for digital citizen identification.
Companies and citizens technologically prepared
Luis Pérez-Freire, Gradiant’s executive director, points out that “in the IMPULSE project, we have worked to be technologically prepared so, both companies and citizens, can take advantage of the great opportunities the upcoming enforcement of eIDAS v2 regulation will bring. It will break down European borders in the secure use of online services, both with private entities and with the Public Administration.”
The innovation is based on the concept of digital identity and collects in an app the data in a secure and verifiable way so that they can be presented to any institution by simply scanning a QR code.
Jaime Loureiro, head of Advanced Data Security at Gradiant and coordinator of IMPULSE, explained this morning that “thanks to this alliance we have created an e-wallet for European citizens, allowing them to access online services provided by public administrations quickly and easily, ensuring their security and privacy.” Loureiro also highlighted that IMPULSE “aligns with the basis of eIDAS v2, focused on improving the security, privacy, usability, and interoperability of digital identity systems in the European Union. In this sense, IMPULSE represents a significant step in this field, proposing an innovative and secure solution for managing digital identities in the public sector.
About IMPULSE
IMPULSE project has focused on conducting a multidimensional analysis of the transformative impact, centred on the user, by using IA and Blockchain on electronic identities (eID) to enhance access to digital public services.
In addition to developing the e-wallet, Gradiant contributed to the integration for new Smart Contracts-based mechanism for the management of citizen informed consent. Gradiant was also responsible for the development and deployment of the mobile application and platform management, which was proved in six pilots: Ertzaintza, Gijón City Council, the municipalities of Peshtera (Bulgaria) and Reykjavik, Unioncamere with his technological partner InfoCamere ScpA (Italy), and the city of Aarhus (Denmark).
