Kiur, currently in the process of becoming a spin-off, is an artificial intelligence-based technology that helps improve the clinical management of chronic wounds through automated assessment and personalized therapeutic recommendations

The award recognizes best practices and outcomes in Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) in artificial intelligence from an ethical and human-centered perspective

The technological center Gradiant has been recognized at AMETIC’s 2025 Social Impact AI Awards in the “R+D+i on AI Award” category, which highlights best practices and results in research, development and innovation in artificial intelligence from an ethical and human-centered perspective. The award honors the work carried out on Kiur, a healthcare technology based on AI for the detection and treatment of chronic wounds that is set to be launched soon as a spin-off.

How Kiur works

Kiur is a clinical decision support tool that enables healthcare professionals to assess the condition of a chronic wound using an image taken with a mobile device. The system automatically analyzes the present tissues and suggests the most suitable treatment based on current clinical guidelines, providing doctors and nurses with a second opinion grounded in evidence. This technology helps to standardize care processes, reduce assessment time, and prevent errors in dressing application, especially in settings such as primary care and nursing homes.

“Receiving this award is a major boost to continue demonstrating that artificial intelligence can be applied with clinical sense, technical rigor, and real utility in the daily work of healthcare staff,” says Óscar Pérez García, CEO of the future spin-off. “Our goal with Kiur is to improve the management of chronic wounds by making healthcare professionals’ work easier and enabling more accurate and personalized care for every patient.”

The development of Kiur has been supported by the Ignicia Program of the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) through the ACE project, which aims to accelerate the market transfer of technologies emerging from scientific environments. Currently in the validation phase as a healthcare technology, the tool continues to progress toward its commercial launch.

With this award, Gradiant reaffirms its commitment to developing digital solutions with social impact, strengthening its role as a key player in technological transfer and the ethical application of artificial intelligence in the healthcare field.

Project co-financed by the Xunta de Galicia under the resolution of the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) dated January 17, 2023 (Ignicia Proof of Concept Program).
