They toured the laboratories for advanced 5G-6G communications and quantum and photonic technologies.

They learned about the main milestones of the last year, including the consolidation of its leadership in cybersecurity – based on the volume of innovative projects achieved – and the consolidation of its spin-off strategy.

Román Rodríguez, Minister of Education, Science, Universities, and Vocational Training, accompanied by Carmen Cotelo, Director of the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN), visited Gradiant’s headquarters in Vigo this morning. During the visit, they toured the facilities, including the advanced communications 5G-6G and quantum and photonic technologies laboratories. Román and Cotelo had the opportunity to see firsthand how the center is capable of transferring knowledge and technological development into results with a real impact on the economy and society.

They were able to observe the operation of several demos and prototypes and learn more about the new business projects being incubated under the Ignicia Proof of Concept program.

During their tour of the facilities, they were accompanied by Luis Pérez Freire and Fernando Jiménez, executive director and manager of Gradiant, respectively, who shared the main data and milestones achieved by the center over the past year. These included consolidating its leadership in cybersecurity, measured by the volume of innovative projects obtained, and the strengthening of its spin-off strategy with the launch of two new companies in 2023, which bring R&D results developed at the center to the market. There was also time to discuss future perspectives and present proposals to the administration to multiply the positive impact of the work carried out by technological centers like Gradiant.

With more than 230 people dedicated to innovation in the field of ICT, Gradiant is the third-largest ICT technological center in Spain and a leader in the creation of spin-offs, generating new business ecosystems from its technologies. In addition to opening new offices in A Coruña in 2024, it launched its third spin-off (start-up), which is already creating high-tech professional jobs.

Gradiant is a private institution with the participation of the three universities and the most representative companies in Galicia in the technological field. It contributes its artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and communications systems technologies to sectors as diverse as health, industry, and defense.
