AgriFoodTEF (Testing and Experimentation Facilities) is a network of testing and validation infrastructures across Europe that supports agri-food technology companies. The main objective is to bridge the gap between excellence in research in these fields and real-world products that support efficient and sustainable agriculture, while also meeting the strict usability and economic requirements of end users. The foundation of AgriFoodTEF is firmly rooted in experimental farms and existing facilities for AI and robotics in agriculture, already operational in several regions highly representative of European agri-food production. These have been grouped together to create scale and further enhance the EUs role in ensuring global food security with testing and validation facilities that will involve all relevant stakeholders with the best experts in AI and robotics technology domains. Additionally, standards for the creation of datasets, data sovereignty, algorithm interoperability, and benchmarks will be based on GAIA-X, as ambassadors from different agricultural domains within GAIA-X in Europe are part of the proposal.
Although each TEF node will promote independent operations with a sustainable business model optimized for regional specialties and needs, all TEF nodes will share common guidelines, standards, and will support each other with services that can also be offered across the various regions represented by nodes and satellites.
The ultimate goal is to help Europe achieve leadership in fostering high-quality, innovative technological solutions for the agri-food sector, taking primary production to new levels of efficiency similar to those achieved by the Green Revolution.
