In environments such as electronic voting or e-government, the privacy and integrity of data are protected using cryptographic techniques. To protect the cryptographic keys used in these environments, cryptographic hardware such as HSMs (Hardware Security Module) is typically used, which are very expensive and generally inflexible (static configurations). The main objective of this project is to provide a cloud-based HSM platform that is highly flexible (allowing for the programming of complex cryptographic operations) and scalable, so that it can be offered as an additional computational resource in the cloud (HSM as a service or HSMaaS). The project involves integrating the platform with Scytl’s electronic voting solution to use it as a protection measure and delegation of the cryptographic operations of the electronic voting protocol. GRADIANT, as a project partner, is responsible for developing the base “HSM as a Service” platform and building the electronic voting vertical on top of it, based on the requirements and needs of SCTYL.
