The main objective of the POLARYS project is to enhance maritime safety and improve navigation and emergency management efficiency through the development of an innovative VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) transceiver and its complementary systems. This system allows the exchange of maritime safety-related information between vessels and between vessels and terrestrial/satellite infrastructures. Within the scope of the POLARYS project, a maritime surveillance and navigation assistance application is being developed, which will be supported by VDES technology. All information will be available in real time through a GIS-3D (Geographic Information System – 3D) application designed for use both at command and control centers and on mobile platforms equipped with AIS/VDES receivers. Additionally, the platform will allow the integration of various sensors and alarms related to the maritime and physical safety of vessels, thereby providing a comprehensive onboard security system compatible with VDES.
