The SMARTAGRIHUBS project (Connecting the dots to unleash the innovation potential for the digital transformation of the European agri-food sector) aims to accelerate the digital transformation of the agri-food sector in Europe. To achieve this, it focuses on consolidating, activating, and expanding the existing ecosystem through the creation of a robust network of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH). These hubs are key to fostering the adoption of digital technologies in the agricultural sector, helping producers integrate new solutions that enhance efficiency, sustainability, and competitiveness.
The SmartAgriHubs strategy combines technology and business support, with a local and personalized approach that covers all regions of Europe. This ensures that each area can benefit from solutions tailored to their specific needs, involving all key stakeholders of the agri-food ecosystem, from farmers to researchers and technology companies.
The project includes 28 Innovation Experiments (FIEs), which act as living laboratories where new technologies applied to agriculture are tested and adjusted. These experiments are coordinated by DIHs, grouped into 9 regional consortia, representing all EU member states. Through this network, SmartAgriHubs seeks to consolidate innovation in the sector, maximizing the potential of digital transformation to create a more resilient and advanced agri-food system.
