SIOT (STELARIS-IOT)

The main objective of the SIOT project (Stelaris-IOT) is the design and development of a hybrid satellite/cellular 5G communication system optimized for low-bitrate, low-duty-cycle Internet of Things (IoT) applications, typically sensors and actuators. The system provides bidirectional connectivity to a large number of IoT devices in areas without coverage from other networks, either directly via a satellite link or indirectly, creating an extended 5G coverage zone according to the mMTC service category (massive machine-type communications), using the satellite link as a backhaul.
