The TerresTRACE project is a software coverage prediction tool developed at Gradiant in collaboration with the University of Vigo. It operates based on several different prediction methods for studying the coverage of a given region. It supports its mathematical calculations using digital terrain models, which characterize the orographic path between each pair of transmitter and receiver located at points chosen by the user.
For performing measurements with real signals, a radio channel emulator based on FPGA hardware has been created in parallel with the tool. This emulator allows the introduction of echoes into the signal in real time, with different delays, amplitudes, and phases, modeling the behavior of a physical channel. In this way, this hardware cosimulation aims to accelerate the calculations needed to estimate the quality of the received signal at each point of interest.
