Balance económico de Gradiant

Over the past five years, the ICT technology center, now employing more than 250 people, has nearly tripled its revenue, with a 170% increase in income between 2020 and 2024

With nearly €2 million secured from European projects and six international licensing agreements, Gradiant positions itself as a leading research and technology development center in Europe

Gradiant consolidates its growth trajectory and its position as a leading ICT technology center in Spain and Europe with the release of its 2024 performance report, which shows over €14 million in revenue, and the approval of its 2025–2027 strategic plan. This new plan is focused on ensuring technological autonomy, competitiveness, and productivity at regional, national, and European levels.

Gradiant’s wealth and job creation have seen exponential growth over the past five years. Between 2020 and 2024, the center, which now employs over 250 people, increased its income by more than 170%, from €5 million to €14 million, and grew its staff by 139%, from 98 employees in 2020 to 234 at the end of 2024. By area, the most significant growth occurred in communications, data security and privacy, and intelligent systems, driven by the emergence of new technologies such as quantum and photonics, and growing interest in AI, data analytics, autonomous systems, and eHealth.

Through Gradiant Investments, the center has launched three spin-offs with a combined value exceeding €40 million and more than 60 employees—Alice Biometrics, Sense Aeronautics, and a third focused on drone detection, classification, and neutralization technologies—and has two more in the incubation phase: Kiur, a new technology for treating chronic wounds, and Dokken, a tool for intelligent document processing.

Gradiant has also expanded its presence at the European level, strengthening its position as a leading R&D center. Last year, the center, which participated in over 150 projects, secured €1.96 million in European R&D funding for Spain—a 31.5% increase over 2023. It also reached 11 licensing agreements, six of which were international—30% more than the previous year.

These figures position Gradiant as one of the leading ICT technology centers in Spain and Europe in terms of innovative projects and R&D output. “This growth positions us as a key technological center for the development and maturation of critical technologies for Galician, Spanish, and European industries” says Luis Pérez Freire, Gradiant’s Executive Director.

Strategic vision for lasting impact

The center has just approved its new strategic plan, which aims to maintain this responsible and sustainable growth and enhance its European visibility as a key driver of essential technologies in today’s context, such as digital and deep tech solutions. “In the coming years, we will work to strengthen our technological autonomy. To do so, we will invest in developing innovative, high-tech, proprietary solutions protected by intellectual property rights” explains Pérez Freire.
“The goal is to continue developing strategic technologies that make a real impact in key sectors such as telecommunications, security and defense, industry, primary sectors, and healthcare.”

Of the €14 million in total revenue for 2024, more than half came from business contracts, especially with SMEs, and 9% came from the sale of technology licenses, patents, and intellectual property—far above the national average for technology centers in Spain, which stands below 1%, according to the 2023 FEDIT annual report. “These are highly meaningful figures for us because they reflect the high value of the innovation and technology we generate. They demonstrate that the proprietary solutions developed by the Gradiant team are helping to strengthen, grow, and enhance the competitive capacity of the industrial fabric” says Fernando Jiménez, Director of Gradiant.
