This project addresses the goal of the “Collaborative language tools projects” call for proposals to help make natural language processing (NLP) tools more accessible to a wider audience.
Currently, universities and other research entities often release open source software only on platforms such as GitHub. At best, these software are associated with research papers or are linked to other platforms such as the CLARIN network or META-SHARE. This project aims to help make these sometimes very good natural language processing tools more accessible by making them available through the ELRC-SHARE repository.
The tools we are targeting are speech and language technology tools from research institutions in the specific areas of the consortium members: Spain, Portugal, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden. Thus we choose to improve the dissemination of PLN tools in languages such as Icelandic, Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish and, focusing more on our region, Spanish, Portuguese and other languages of the Iberian Peninsula.
As a result, we expect that the CEF ELRC-SHARE will be enhanced with a comprehensive set of NLP tools that will make it easier for researchers and software/service developers to use these tools in their research or service development.
