Gradiant es premiada en los Disruptores Innovation Awards por ICAREWOUNDS

Our RTO receives the award for Best Initiative Promoted by Technology Centres or Science Parks for ICAREWOUNDS

This research, led by Shaila Calvo Almeida, redefines chronic wounds care with an integrated care model validated in European hospitals.

Gradiant has been recognised at the DISRUPTORES Innovation Awards 2025, organised by EL ESPAÑOL. Specifically, the technology centre received the award for “Best initiative promoted by technology centres or science parks” for the development of an integrated care model for patients with chronic wounds within the framework of ICAREWOUNDS, led by Shaila Calvo Almeida.

The ceremony took place at the Palacio de Neptuno in Madrid, bringing together more than 400 professionals from the innovation ecosystem at a gala that has established itself as one of the most important events of the year.

“ICAREWOUNDS embodies everything that technology centres strive for: transforming knowledge into technology, and technology into solutions that solve real problems for people”, said Luis Pérez-Freire, Gradiant’s executive director, as he accepted the award alongside Fernando Jiménez Míguez and Shaila Calvo Almeida. “In Spain, more than one million people suffer from this type of injury, and our goal is to help improve their quality of life with technology at the service of health. Technology for intelligent, personalised care

Developed by Gradiant researchers, the award-winning technology allows real-time monitoring of wound status, continuous follow-up and personalised treatment management.

Thanks to this approach, the ICAREWOUNDS solution improves the efficiency of healthcare resources, reduces the risk of infection and accelerates healing processes, becoming a new standard for the treatment of chronic wounds.

This project, which is being validated in several European hospitals, has demonstrated the potential of technological innovation applied to the clinical field. In this way, Gradiant reinforces the role of Spanish research in the development of disruptive solutions for digital health.

Recognition for joint work within the technological ecosystem

The DISRUPTORES Innovation Awards, chosen by an independent jury, recognise the most outstanding initiatives in innovation, digitalisation and technology in the Hispanic world each year. In its fifth edition, the awards were attended by Pedro J. Ramírez, executive president and director of EL ESPAÑOL, and Miguel López-Valverde, Minister of Digital Transformation for the Community of Madrid, who emphasised the importance of artificial intelligence and technological innovation as pillars of economic and social progress.

Gradiant shares the category with high-level projects promoted by Eurecat, TECNALIA, Espaitec and the UMH Science Park, finalists in this edition. The technology centre would like to thank DISRUPTORES – EL ESPAÑOL for this recognition, which reinforces Gradiant’s mission to transfer scientific knowledge to the productive fabric and develop technologies with a direct impact on people’s lives.
