novaWallet builds on Gradiant’s expertise and experience, combining applied artificial intelligence and blockchain to strengthen security and trust

Technology centre Gradiant has launched novaWallet, its digital wallet designed to facilitate the adoption of European digital identity by businesses and public administrations. The solution is among the first digital identity and verifiable credential wallets ready to operate within the EUDI Wallet ecosystem and was also a pioneer in obtaining the European EBSI Conformance Seal.

Designed for businesses and public administrations, the digital wallet can reduce the use of traditional certificates in certain processes and enables secure authentication and the management of verifiable credentials, incorporating European standards by design.

According to Luis Pérez-Freire, CEO of Gradiant, “novaWallet represents Gradiant’s commitment to accelerating the adoption of digital identity in Europe. The solution builds on our experience in deep tech, combining applied artificial intelligence and blockchain to strengthen security and trust.” He adds: “This technological combination enhances security and trust in identity and credential verification and makes it possible to build secure, decentralised digital identity solutions fully aligned with European requirements.”

novaWallet stands out for its combination of advanced security, full interoperability and an optimised user experience. It also enables organisations to perform different roles within the ecosystem, including issuers, verifiers and trusted entities, facilitating their integration into the European digital economy.

From a three-dimensional perspective, novaWallet fully reflects the approach of the new European model: from a governance standpoint, it is aligned with eIDAS2 and European standards; from a market perspective, it reduces costs, accelerates onboarding processes and opens up new business opportunities; and from a technological perspective, it provides a robust, secure and interoperable architecture that has already been validated in real-world scenarios such as digital onboarding and credential issuance.

A key moment for Europe’s digital ecosystem

The launch comes at a pivotal moment for Europe’s digital ecosystem. The rollout of digital identity is already following a defined timetable: during 2026, each Member State will be required to provide at least one free digital wallet to citizens, residents and businesses, while by the end of 2027 public services and regulated sectors will be required to accept the EUDI Wallet as a valid means of identification.

Pérez-Freire points out that “in this context, regulatory harmonisation without sacrificing sovereignty, the integration of the wallet as a competitive standard capable of reducing fraud, and the development of secure, interoperable and scalable infrastructures will all be decisive factors. Against this backdrop, technological expertise in areas such as cybersecurity and digital identity management is becoming increasingly important, fields in which Gradiant has been working for many years.”

From a technical requirement to a strategic asset

One of the pillars of the new ecosystem is the certification of digital wallets. Beyond being a technical requirement, from an economic and market perspective certification is becoming a genuine brand asset, capable of conveying reliability to both end users and institutional customers while aligning the entire value chain, verifiers, issuers and trusted entities — around common standards.

In practice, it is also becoming a genuine licence to operate within the European ecosystem. In this context, technological capability is a key differentiator, since the challenge is not only regulatory: organisations must also be able to manage large volumes of information securely and efficiently while ensuring compliance with these standards.

A strategic opportunity for businesses and public administrations

European digital identity is entering a decisive phase, moving from a fragmented model towards sovereign, secure and operational interoperability. In this new environment, public administrations will need to safeguard trust and cohesion across the system, businesses will need to adapt in order to unlock its competitive potential, and the technology ecosystem will be expected to provide reliable and scalable solutions.

Along this path, solutions such as novaWallet not only facilitate regulatory compliance but are also becoming a strategic asset for organisations: a source of trust, a competitive advantage and, ultimately, a genuine licence to operate within Europe’s new digital ecosystem.
